Tandem FP-CPM+FSR for three-phase fan control

In February, Frigopoint announced a new control module for FP-CPM speed controllers. This device is designed to create an autonomous condensation pressure control system. In which the control module acts as a controller, measuring the pressure, having a setpoint setting function and issuing a control signal according to a proportional algorithm to the actuator - the FP-FSR-8 three-phase fan speed controller. The fan speed controller, in turn, issues a converted signal to the three-phase fan, and also has a discrete input for a fan failure (for example, a thermal contact) and a phase break monitoring function. Also, in the speed controller, you can configure the functions of operation at minimum speed (upon reaching the threshold value) and the pickup function.

Thus, the FP-CPM + FP-FSR tandem has the functions of measuring, setting the setpoint, regulating voltage, monitoring emergency states.

The tandem is mounted as follows:

1) The FP-CPM module is mounted strictly vertically (with the adjusting screw facing up) directly on the pipe to the service nipple, Fig. 2A (in this case, mounting is only permitted on the liquid pipeline; installation on the “compressor-condenser” discharge line is not permitted) or on the panel using a bracket and subsequent mounting of the connecting tube to the regulator nipple, Fig. 2B (in this case, mounting is permitted both on the liquid pipeline and on the discharge line);

2) The speed controller is mounted strictly vertically with sufficient free space for unimpeded heat convection and isolated from external heat sources, including direct sunlight. A full list of installation requirements and recommendations can be found in the instructions.

Below is the electrical connection diagram for the FP-CPM+FP-FSR-8 tandem. Individual complete electrical connection diagrams can be found in the device instructions. If available, we recommend connecting a thermal contact of the fan windings; in this case, if the windings overheat, the device will send an emergency signal to the remote control and stop the fan.

После завершения монтажа электрических соединений можно переходить к настройке электронных устройств.

Из обязательных настроек:

1)Настройка уставки давления конденсации (FP-CPM);

After completing the electrical connections, you can proceed to setting up the electronic devices.

Of the mandatory settings:

1) Setting the condensation pressure setpoint (FP-CPM);

2) Signal source DIP1=0 (FP-FSR-8);

Of the additional settings:

1) Setting the minimum-maximum fan speed (FP-FSR-8);

2) Setting the operation algorithm at 0V (min. speed/stop) (FP-FSR-8);

3) Fan start-up pickup function (FP-FSR-8);

Setting the setpoint

The setpoint is set by adjusting the adjusting screw on the FP-CPM module body. To set the control setpoint, you will need a 2.5 mm Allen key. Install it in the hex hole of the adjusting screw (Fig. 4) and rotate clockwise to increase the setpoint, counterclockwise to decrease the setpoint. 1 revolution corresponds to a change in the setpoint by 0.8 bar. The factory setpoint value is 20 bar (the setpoint range from 5 to 35 bar does not depend on the type of freon). To set the setpoint, use a pressure gauge, installing it on the same pipeline as the regulator.

Control algorithm

The FP-CPM control module measures the condensation pressure and, in accordance with the difference between the setpoint and the measured pressure, outputs a signal from 0 to 10 V according to the following proportional algorithm:

It is also necessary to set the input signal type DIP1=0 (input AI2 (0…10 V)) on the FP-FSR-8 speed controller. The DIP switch block is located on the controller front panel. The full list of controls and functions is presented below in the figure and in the table.

Additional functions

To set the minimum and maximum fan speed, two trimmers are installed on the front panel of the speed controller (see the figure and table above for controls).

By turning them, the minimum speed is set in the range (0….50%) and the maximum speed (50%....100%). Accordingly, after setting, the control amplitude will be from V min to Vmax, where Vmin, Vmax are the values set on the trimmers. This function can be useful in combating fan noise, when at maximum speed there is noise from the impeller, and at minimum speed a "squeak" is heard from the stator of the electric motor.

To set the operating mode of the FP-FSR-8 speed controller at a 0V signal from the FP-CPM module, use the DIP-2 switch. If DIP-2 = 0. CUT OFF mode. In this mode (Fig. a), the fan speed is proportional to the input signal in the entire range, from the minimum MIN to the maximum MAX speed. Regulation is switched off when the input signal level has reached the minimum value INmin. Regulation is switched on when the input signal level has risen to the value INmin+5%

DIP-2 = 1. MIN SPEED mode. In this mode (Fig. b) the fan speed is proportional to the input signal in the entire range, from the minimum MIN to the maximum MAX speed. When the input signal decreases to the minimum value INmin and below, regulation is not switched off, but continues to operate at the MIN speed.

To set the pickup (start) mode and enter the mode, use the DIP3 switch. DIP-3 = 0 — "Pickup" is disabled. DIP-3 = 1 — "Pickup" is enabled. In this case, when starting the regulation, the output signal has the value OUT=100%
for 5 seconds, and then the proportional to the input signal
regulation is enabled. "Pickup" can be smooth (DIP-4=1). In this case,
the output value smoothly increases from 0 to 100% proportionally
to the "Pickup" time.

During operation, the operation/failure state, the duty cycle of the system can be assessed by the indication on the front panel of the FP-FSR-8 regulator. The location of the indicators can be seen in Fig. 4 controls, the meaning of the indication is given below:
