Question
Question:
Hello, can you please tell me if there are any restrictions on the quantity
compressors in the unit when selecting a common oil separator type FP-OS?
The customer is worried that these oil separators are used for units with 3
compressors and more.

Answer:
When selecting a common gravity type oil separator for a multi-compressor station, there are always concerns about the efficiency of the separator at partial load. This is due to the fact that in these devices the physical principle of oil separation is based on a sharp decrease in the flow rate of the freon-oil mixture to the speed of the oil droplets soaring, followed by precipitation.
Therefore, in order to be 100% sure of the efficiency of the oil separator, it is necessary to understand the conditions under which this unit will be operated, for example, what is the average daily load (one, two, three or more compressors are constantly in operation), the temperature mode of operation (for medium temperature conditions, operation at partial loads is less critical than for low-temperature ones), or to produce serial products, the design of which has passed multiple tests and has previously proven its performance.
Based on our many years of practice, cases of critical failures of multi-compressor installations due to the low efficiency of the gravity-type oil separator when operating at partial loads were extremely rare. And in order to avoid fears in principle, we have developed and produced since 2019 combined oil separators-oil collectors of the OSR series, which were specially developed by our engineers for operation as part of multi-compressor stations, including those with partial load, and have shown their highest efficiency over the entire production period. Since 2019, these devices have been installed at almost all of their facilities by leading retailers of the Russian Federation, they are produced and shipped annually up to 10,000 units of various models of the OSR series. There are no complaints about efficiency at partial load at all, because these devices are essentially three-stage separators, since they contain the principles of cyclone, coalescent and, of course, gravity type of oil separation. Therefore, m We recommend you to use this series of combined oil separators for use in multi-compressor installations.
Good luck!
